Mickey Smith was Rose Tyler's boyfriend before she met the Doctor. He first appears in the New Who's pilot episode Rose, where he is eaten by a trash bin being controlled by the Nestene Consciousness. A plastic version of him then replaces him to spy on Rose and find the Doctor. The Doctor then chops off the plastic version's head and uses it to locate the Nestene Consciousness. When he and Rose go to confront the NC, they find that Mickey has been kept alive so that more plastic models of him can be made.
Mickey also appears in the episodes Aliens of London, World War Three, Father's Day, Boom Town, School Reunion, The Girl in the Fireplace, Rise of the Cybermen, Age of Steel, Army of Ghosts, Doomsday, and Journey's End.
His final appearance in Doctor Who was in the second episode of the two part special The End of Time, where the Tenth Doctor visits every single one of his companions right before he regenerate. In this episode it is revealed that he married Martha Jones, another one of the Doctor's companions.
Mickey is shown to grow as a character especially between seasons 1 and 2 of New Who. He starts out as, a "useless lump" according to Rose, but later travels to a parallel universe and replaces his parallel self, Rickey, who is "deleted" by Cybermen. He then goes on to fight Cybermen and later Daleks.
